Hello I’m Jon, a drum teacher devoted to helping students achieve their drumming goals whatever that may be. I have been teaching since 2010 offering individual and group lessons from my studio as well as in many schools throughout Berkshire.
My journey of music education began at Reading College, from there I went on to pursue 5 years at The Academy Of Contemporary Music, where I studied with many of the leading UK drummers and teachers and was exposed to many styles of music. It was here that I gained further experience playing live and learning vital business and working drummer skills.
After obtaining a 2:1 Degree in Contemporary Music and achieving a distinction grade 8 with Trinity Guildhall I began offering private lessons in 2010 and soon realised this was my dream job.
I continue to play in many original and function bands performing at a variety of venues around the UK. (Please feel free to check out the gallery section for media content).
As well as teaching at my studio throughout the week I also currently teach at the following:
- Yamaha Music Point based at Dawsons
- St Edward's Prep School
- St Gabriel's Independent School
- Berkshire Maestros
- John Madjeski Academy
- M:Tech based at Reddam House Independent School
- Buzz Music
I have also worked as a music teacher with large classes of up to 35 KS2 pupils and have had plenty of experience leading large group percussion/Samba workshops at many schools throughout Berkshire. As a musician you can never stop learning and I feel extremely grateful to have studied with the late, great Bob Armstrong and am currently studying with legendary Dave Hassell. I have also attended private drum teacher seminars, small group drum lessons with UK greats Steve White, Ian Thomas and Moeller technique lessons with Andy Leask.
To summarise I am an experienced player and teacher with a determination to continuously develop my own skills to help benefit my student’s growth and offer high standard drum lessons. I am a friendly, honest, reliable person who has helped hundreds of pupils achieve their drumming goals, whether it’s to obtain a place at a music academy, take graded exams or more importantly make great music they can be proud of with other musicians.
If you’re at all interested in learning to play the drums or brushing up your existing skills, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I look forward to helping you embark on your musical journey.
Please note I am fully DBS checked, as well as a member of the Musicians Union with Public Liability Insurance.
